“By discussing a wide array of films such as: oil company propaganda, commissioned or state-sponsored documentary films, and essay films with strong anticolonial undercurrents, I seek to chart out some of the lineages and modes of visuality enabled by the oil industry in Iran. In this historical and ontological inquiry around the migration and transformation of images of oil, we will be able to map out the different ideologies of representation surrounding extractive industry in Iran and to better understand how images traverse through time and geographies.”
